Role: Creative concept, Photographer, Retoucher

During the covid lockdown in March 2020, the world was frozen. For me the strangest thing happened: however exhausting, I absolutely loved that time I got to spend with my family. Just as we all came home and locked the doors, I had a burst of inspiration. I wanted to depict my first real identity crisis: that of myself in the role of mother.

The conflict was real. I absolutely adored my little human, but in trying to live up to the ideal of being her entire universe, I lost myself to sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion, attention fatigue and hormones. Through play and connection, however, I was able to communicate with her in such a way that allowed for creativity to blossom. I inspired her to learn through toys and interaction, while she inspired me to feed my inner child and grow emotionally in unimaginable ways. To this day, I learn from her as much as she learns from me.

I knew that many moms go through the same experience, hence the idea to continue the story with other women who could relate. All photos it his series are of real mothers, depicted with the favorite toys of their children.
This self-portrait was created during playtime and is the direct result of an imaginary science fiction universe, created with my child's favorite toys. ~ March 2020.
